A Data Center, also known as a data centre, is a facility that houses computer systems along with additional systems like telecommunications and data storage systems. These facilities, also referred to as server rooms or data rooms, are areas where organizations store their servers and data storage systems. Data centers are generally categorized into two main types: private data centers and Internet data centers. Private data centers are used exclusively by a single organization for their own services, while Internet data centers provide services to third parties.
The infrastructure of data centers, including electrical, mechanical, and security systems, varies depending on the importance of the data being processed and stored. In general, data centers are equipped with backup power sources, redundant data communication connections, climate control systems for cooling the systems within the facility, fire suppression systems, and security systems tailored to the level of security required to protect the data against potential threats from the external environment.
